Lead Python Software Engineer | Greenfields Project | London | £75,000/£80,000

Lead Python Software Engineer. Greenfields Project. London. £75,000/£80,000

We’re looking for a Lead Python Developer to join the backend team of a fantastic client with a number of opportunities.

You’ll be joining a team of experienced developers that practice continuous delivery and assist with building brand new applications in the construction space.

Since this is a new team, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to shape practices and culture. Our client is incredibly keen on creating a positive development culture, with communication and openness extremely important.

Skills Required

Ideally, you’ll be an Agile-aware developer with experience of API development coupled with experience of a language commonly used in a back-end web app (Python, Ruby, Scala, Clojure), and flexibility in different programming paradigms (Object Orientated, Functional Programming).

You will also understand the importance of infrastructure as code. You appreciate the benefits of TDD and also enjoy being able to work closely with other members of the team to develop technical solutions to problems. You will be joining a collaborative team that try to work cross-functionally as much as they can.

Most Valuable Skills

  • A good grasp of Python 3
  • Experience of a Python web framework (Flask/Django/Pyramid)
  • Experience of Object Relational Mappers (and their positives/negatives).
  • Experience of cloud development and architecture.
  • Experience in an Agile environment, specifically CI/CD.
  • Solid track record in producing secure fast systems.
  • Experience designing APIs for applications to consume.

Nice To Have

  • Docker
  • Azure
  • MyPy

The backend consists of a number of Python web services talking to one another over HTTP. We serve data to an Angular frontend. The ability to work incredibly closely with the frontend team is an especially important aspect of this role – our best successes have come from working as closely as possible with frontend and product ownership to build end-to-end applications which fulfil the needs of the business. We are keen on static type-checking in our code and tend to favour functions over classes.

The Lead Python Developer role represents a unique opportunity for someone who is open and honest and willing to learn.
